Brazilian P200s, part 2

This is the second part of the Brazilian P200 pencils.  There are 3 different series of pencils I will cover in this post.

Collection Neon

This is the first series I will cover in this post. These were released over 2 different years, which I will mention below.

The colors of these pencils all match the colors of the Swiss Fluorescent Limited Editions, with the exception of the color of the text.  The Swiss text is all silver and the Brazilian text is black. Also, I mentioned in the last post about the Collection preceding the normal text on the side.  Since I know these are newer pencils, and they all have Collection on them, this is why I suspect that the P200-MTAPB and P200-XPB are the newest of the COLLECTION COLORS pencils.

The color code here (ex. FFPB) stands for:
F – Fluorescent
F – Pentel’s color code for Orange
PB – Pentel Brazil

These are the same color codes (minus the PB) that were used with the Swiss Limited Editions.

P200-FFPB Neon OrangeP205-FFPB (Gen 6) - 336P207-FFPB (Gen 6) - 369P209-FFPB (Gen 6) - 324

This is a bright orange pencil with all of these examples being manufactured in Japan.

The P205 and P207 were released in 2015, with the P209 being released in 2016.

The barcodes for these pencils are:
P205 – 7898419163750
P207 – 7898419163767
P209 – 7898419164733

I got these pencils from friend in Brazil in April 2017.

P200-FGPB Neon YellowP205-FGPB (Gen 6) - 371P207-FGPB (Gen 6) - 321P209-FGPB (Gen 6) - 327

This is a bright yellow pencil, but only the P205 & P207 (released in 2015) were manufactured in Japan and the P209 (released in 2016) is made in Brazil.

The barcodes for these pencils are:
P205 – 7898419163736
P207 – 7898419163743
P209 – 7898419164740

Again, these were received in April 2017.

P200-FPPB Neon PinkP205-FPPB (Gen 6) - 311P207-FPPB (Gen 6) - 336P209-FPPB (Gen 6) - 306

These bright pink pencils were all manufactured in Brazil and released in 2016 with the P209s of the previous two colors.

The barcodes for these pencils are:
P205 – 7898419164719
P207 – 7898419164726
P209 – 7898419164757

I traded for these pencils with a collector here in Texas, in February 2017, just before making friends in Brazil.

Limitada Brasil

These next two colors were released to celebrate the 2016 Olympics in Rio.  They all include the Brazilian flag before the text on the side of the pencil.

The color code here (ex. DBPB) stands for:
D – Pentel’s color code for Green
B – Brazilian flag
PB – Pentel Brazil

P200-DBPB GreenP203-DBPB (Gen 6) - 324P205-DBPB (Gen 6) - 354P207-DBPB (Gen 6) - 336P209-DBPB (Gen 6) - 354

These pencils are a dark green, a little darker than the P205D.  These were all manufactured in Brazil and released in 2014.

The barcodes for these pencils are:
P203 – 7898419161268
P205 – 7898419161275
P207 – 7898419161282
P209 – 7898419161299

I got these in the April 2017 shipment from Brazil.

P200-WBPB WhiteP203-WBPB (Gen 6) - 336P205-WBPB (Gen 6) - 369P207-WBPB (Gen 6) - 342P209-WBPB (Gen 6) - 336

These are a nice white pencil with the text color matching the background of the Brazilian flag. Again, these were all manufactured in Brazil and released in 2014.

The barcodes for these pencils are:
P203 – 7898419161305
P205 – 7898419161312
P207 – 7898419161329
P209 – 7898419161336

I got the P205 from an eBay seller in Korea in January 2017, and the other 3 in April 2017 from Brazil.

40 Anos Collection

These pencils were released in 2010 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the P205’s release in 1970 (I have also been told that it was to celebrate 40 years of Pentels being sold in Brazil). One blog I saw stated that these were “distributed only to shopkeepers.” I assume that means that they went to stores that sold these individually, not to stores in Retail packaging.

These pencils are the same color as the COLLECTION COLORS P200-FRPB Ferrari Red pencils.  So, I suspect that the P200-40PB were distributed in 2010, and then the text was changed on the side to the standard text and continued to be distributed P200-FRPB.

P200-40PB RedP205-40PB (Gen 6) - 411P207-40PB (Gen 6) - 414P209-40PB (Gen 6) - 429

This is a nice bright red pencil that was manufactured in Brazil. As stated above the text on these pencils have the model (ex. P205), and then “40 Anos” in a handwriting type font, then has the size and Pentel in the standard fonts.

I only own the P205 & P207 versions of these pencils, and only the P205 has the barcode sticker on it (the P209 photo was provided by PentelProvider (@professorfelipe) on Instagram). I have confirmed the barcodes for all three pencils, and they are:
P205 – 7898419154772
P207 – 7898419154789
P209 – 7898419154796

I received these pencils from two different friends in Brazil (PentelProvider is one), the P207 in April 2018 and the P205 in May 2018.

Brazilian P200s, part 1

In 2003, Pentel opened a branch in Brazil and began to manufacture pens and pencils there.  At some point they began manufacturing the P200 pencils in the standard sizes and colors (P203E, P205A, P205B, P205D, P207C and P209G). Now all of these (and future releases) were released in Brazil with ‘PB’ (Pentel Brazil) at the end of the model number (in their catalogs, at least), so the P205A was released as P205-APB. I have no way of knowing for sure, but I believe that only the outer body is manufactured in Brazil, and all of the other components are brought in from Japan, as the clip still says Japan on it.

I believe that this was the first time that Pentel manufactured the P200 pencils outside of Japan, and thus, in the second line of the cutout, it does not say JAPAN.  In fact it does not say anything, except for the mark.Brazil CutoutNote, that some of the pencils released exclusively in Brazil were manufactured in Japan and say JAPAN in the cutout.  I will mention that when I cover those pencils.

In 2009, Pentel Brazil began releasing color P200s that are only available in Brazil.  Today I will be covering the biggest selection of these, the COLLECTION COLORS.

Another point is that these pencils are released either as a single pencil with the barcode sticker attached, or they were released as a carded retail package with a different barcode.  Of the 58 pencils I purchased from Brazil (includes some duplicates), I only received 7 in the retail package, so I don’t have complete barcode information for those.  The barcode information below is for the individual releases.

As far as I can tell, for the COLLECTED COLORS, these pencils are shown here in release order.  I may write something later about how I determined this.

P200-WPB WhiteP203-WPB (Gen 6) - 342P205-WPB (Gen 6) - 330P207-WPB (Gen 6) - Blue Text - 339P207-WPB (Gen 6) - 411P209-WPB (Gen 6) - 369

The P205-WPB White pencil was the first Brazilian color released in 2009.  From a blog post I have found, I know the Blue text version of the P207-WPB was released in 2010. The P203-WPB and P209-WPB were then released in 2011, when they started expanding their line to other color pencils.

I have no way to verify this, but I suspect that they were going to make the text the color of the original line of P200s (0.3mm = brown, 0.5mm = black, 0.7mm = blue and 0.9mm = yellow), but when they started releasing other colors of pencils and changed their plans to release the other white pencils with black text. In my mind, this is the only thing that makes sense about why they P207 has blue text.

Up until 2017, they kept making the P207 with blue text, but in 2017, they replaced the blue text version with the black text version.  Replaced is the key word here, as they kept the same barcode for the black text pencil.

All versions of this pencil were manufactured in Brazil.

The barcodes for these are:
P203 – 7898419156974
P205 – 7898419152440
P207 – 7898419153904 – both versions
P209 – 7898419157032

I received the first four (blue text P207) in the above mentioned April 2017 shipment, with the P205 & P209 being packaged.  In May 2018, I received the black text P207 from anther friend from Brazil.

P200-FRPB Ferrari RedP203-FRPB (Gen 6) - 345P205-FRPB (Gen 6) - 308P207-FRPB (Gen 6) - 345P209-FRPB (Gen 6) - 297

These pencils are a brighter red than any other color released (other than neons).  These were all manufactured in Brazil. These pencils were released in 2011.

The barcodes for these are:
P203 – 7898419157018
P205 – 7898419160872
P207 – 7898419160889
P209 – 7898419160896

I received these in a large shipment from a friend in Brazil in April 2017.

P200-PPB Light PinkP203-PPB (Gen 6) - 330P205-PPB (Gen 6) - 342P207-PPB (Gen 6) - 333P209-PPB (Gen 6) - 339

This one is a little out of order, but makes sense when looking at the next color.  The colors in these pictures are a little washed out and the actual pencils are a little more pink than shown above.  These were all manufactured in Brazil.

This series was released in 2011, and discontinued and replaced by the P200-PNPB Pink.

The barcodes for these are:
P203 – 7898419156998
P205 – 7898419160858
P207 – 7898419160865
P209 – 7898419155359

Again, received in April 2017.

P200-ZPB SilverP203-ZPB (Gen 6) - 351P205-ZPB (Gen 6) - 339P207-ZPB (Gen 6) - 324P209-ZPB (Gen 6) - 333

These Silver pencils are a very different color from the other silver P200 pencils, with these not having a metallic component, just a silver/light gray color.  Compare these to the P205M-Z and the P205MZX from the P205 Metallics post or the blank silver P205-Z from the European Oddballs post. These were among the first non-white colors released in 2011.

P205 SilverSilver P200 Comparison – Top to Bottom: P205M-Z, P205MZX, P205-Z, P205-ZPB

These P205-ZPB pencils were all manufactured in Brazil.

The barcodes for these are:
P203 – 7898419156981
P205 – 7898419156738
P207 – 7898419156745
P209 – 7898419156752

These were the first Brazilian pencils I purchased.  I got them from Andrey543 on eBay in September 2016, before I ever got in contact with anyone in Brazil.

P200-LPB LilacP203-LPB (Gen 6) - 318P205-LPB (Gen 6) - 354P207-LPB (Gen 6) - 324P209-LPB (Gen 6) - 315

These are a light purple in color and were all manufactured in Brazil. These pencils were released in 2014.

The barcodes for these are:
P203 – 7898419158848
P205 – 7898419158855
P207 – 7898419158862
P209 – 7898419158879

Again, I received these with the large shipment in April 2017.

P200-MTAPB Matt BlackP203-MTAPB (Gen 6) - 345P205-MTAPB (Gen 6) - 339P207-MTAPB (Gen 6) - 339P209-MTAPB (Gen 6) - 339

These are the same matt black that were seen in the European Oddballs post, and like those, were all manufactured in Japan.

I kind of believe that these may have been the latest pencils to be released since unlike most of the others, this has Collection in front of the normal text. They were released in 2014, but later in production than the P200-LPB Lilac.

The barcodes for these are:
P203 – 7898419159302
P205 – 7898419159319
P207 – 7898419159326
P209 – 7898419159333

Received in the large shipment from April 2017.

P200-XPB GoldP203-XPB (Gen 6) - 320P205-XPB (Gen 6) - 324P207-XPB (Gen 6) - 327P209-XPB (Gen 6) - 357

Like the Matt Black pencils above, these Gold pencils also include Collection before the normal text, leading me to believe the two colors are the latest releases from 2014. The gold of these pencils are different from the P205M-X or the P205M-X50 from the P205 Metallics post or the P209-X Kirari from the P209 Kirari post.

P205 GoldGold P200 Comparison – Top to bottom: P209-X Kirari, P205M-X, P205M-X50, P205-XPB

I received one of these (P207) in a retail package, and it was manufactured in Brazil, but the other 3 were all manufactured in Japan.

The Barcodes for the P200-XPB are:
P203 – 7898419159340
P205 – 7898419159357
P207 – 7898419159364
P209 – 7898419159371

These were received in the April 2017 shipment.

P200-PNPB PinkP203-PNPB (Gen 6) - 351P205-PNPB (Gen 6) - 336P207-PNPB (Gen 6) - 378P209-PNPB (Gen 6) - 339

These are the currently available Pink pencils in Brazil, and were manufactured in Brazil. These replaced the P200-PPB Light Pink pencil in 2015.

I received all of these in the retail packaging, but unusually, one of these (the P203) also had the individual barcode sticker on it, which none of the other retail pack pencils had.

The catalog barcodes for these are:
P203 – 7898419162821
P205 – 7898419162838
P207 – 7898419162845
P209 – 7898419162852

Received in April 2017.

European Oddballs

A lot of collectors here in the Americas (North and South) have seen the leftmost pencil (P205-GA Carbon Fiber) in the above image, but very few have seen the other five.

I will talk a little about the barcodes associate with these pencils in the post below.  If you would like to know more about barcodes, you can check out my previous post about this subject at https://nimrodd.net/2017/12/04/barcodes/.

P205-MN Metallic Graphite (Blank)P205-MN (Gen 6) - Blank - 405

This color code is also called Anthracite in other areas of the world. The barcode on this pencil is 3474372050029. This barcode is registered out of EuroPentel in France.  I received it back in April of this year from a friend in Brazil.

P205-MTA Matt Black (Blank)
P205-MTA (Gen 6) - Blank - 336

This pencil, along with the next two were purchased from http://www.artwaremail.ch/ out of Switzerland when I made my purchases of the Retro and Neon P205 sets, back in March 2017. The barcode on this pencil is 3474372050944, again registered out of EuroPentel.

P205-WN White (Blank)P205-WN (Gen 6) - Blank - 342

This pencil’s barcode is 7610924040155.  This barcode is not registered to Pentel, but is apparently from a block where you can just purchase individual barcodes from a block out of Switzerland.

P207-MTA Matt BlackP207-MTA (Gen 6) - 354

Unlike the P205-MTA Matt Black, this one has the standard text on the side.  The barcode is 3474372207034 and is registered out of EuroPentel.

P205-GA Carbon Fiber
P205-GA (Gen 6) - 360

I picked up this pencil from https://www.jetpens.com in 2013.  I really like the look of the interwoven carbon fibers and for the longest time, I assumed that it had been distributed from Japan, but according to the barcode (3474372050609), it is registered out of EuroPentel.

As of this blog post, it is still available from Jetpens and elsewhere.

 P207-GA Carbon FiberP207-GA (Gen 6) - 321

This rarity also came from Artwaremail in Switzerland, and was the last of their stock.  I had never seen, nor heard of this pencil before they said that they had this.  It is the same carbon fiber body as the P205-GA and the barcode is 3474372207010, registered out of EuroPentel.
