Kimono Series Limited Edition Collectors Set P200JPBXSET

Like the previous 2 Pentel P200 box sets (https://nimrodd.net/2021/11/22/p200-since-1970-box-sets/) that came out in 2021, the Kimono contains 4 P200 pencils, one of each of the 4 standard sizes.  Again these have the text “Since 1970” on them along with Pentel and the model.

Here is the front of the box.  Unfortunately, I purchased this from Amazon, and they slapped a sticker on the front of the box that left a permanent stain on it.

The back of the box shows the sizes and the names of the colors.  Like the other two box sets, Pentel of America does not give these a color code, but I chose to use the color codes from the Brazil Tradicionais Japoneas sets.

P203-JB Red / Ebicha

Ebicha is a deep, reddish-brown hue reminiscent of aged mahogany, evoking warmth and elegance. Its richness mirrors the shell of a cooked lobster, offering a sophisticated palette that blend tradition with earthy tones.

P205-JC Blue / Aitetsu-iro

Aitetsu-iro is a cool, dark blue with hints of green that evokes the image of iron freshly forged amidst the subtle glow of indigo. It’s a color of strength and tranquility, reflecting the stoic beauty of Japanese ironware and rainy skies.

P207-JN Grey / Asaginezu

Asaginezu whispers of serene elegance, blending the tranquility of pale sky blue with the subtle sophistication of grey, reminiscent of a peaceful dawn sky softly veiled by a thin misty haze.

P209-JY Beige / Kuwa-iro

Kuwa-iro reflects the golden hues found in the early autumn leaves. The color is characterized as a muted and subtle yellow, representing the warmth and wisdom inherent in nature’s changing seasons.

I chose to use the descriptions from the back of the box for the descriptions above so that they can be translated to other languages for readers of other languages.

Plus PE-205-E

First a rough history lesson about Plus and it’s relation to Pentel.

In September 2019, Kokuyo purchased shares in Pentel and became the largest shareholder. Later in November 2019, Kokuyo launched a hostile takeover of Pentel to make Pentel a subsidiary of Kokuyo. In 2020, Plus stepped in as a White Knight in the attempted hostile takeover of Pentel by Kokuyo.  Plus purchased 30.7% of Pentel’s stock and saved Pentel from takeover by Kokuyo.

In 2022, Kokuyo sold it’s 45.6% stake in Pentel to Plus, giving Plus a 76.3% ownership of Pentel and making it a subsidiary of Plus.

On April 1st, 2026, Plus changed the name of the overarching company to Astrum Corporation, with Plus Stationery, Pentel, Sailor Pen and Nippon Notebook their stationery division.

Now, back to the Plus PE-205-E.  The PE-205-E is the third Pentel pencil released under Plus branding, the first two being the PE-005-E (Orenz) and the PE-006-P (PD205).

The PE-205-E is based off the Pentel P205 and was released in 4 colors: Blue, Green, Yellow and Red.  But Plus did not release these with different color codes, just all under the same model number and barcode.

As of 2026, none of the above pencils are available from Plus.  It is my supposition that these were started when Plus did not own Pentel but was still partnering with them.  Once they owned Pentel, this line of Plus pencils was discontinued to move the pencils all back under the Pentel brand and Plus concentrated on other stationery products.

P205 Neon Limited (Japan)

I am not positive when these were released, as for the last few years I believed these to be the same pencils as the Swiss Fluorescent Limited pencils.

Then in August 2025, another collector told me that these are different from the Swiss versions.  By this point, they had apparently been discontinued and were hard to find, but I finally got my set.

Once I got these, I find that under the clip they all have a Date Code of 2K (November 2022), so my assumption is that they were released in early 2023.

Here is a photo of one of these side-by-side with the original Swiss versions and the Japanese versions.

As you can see the Swiss version on top is a brighter matt Orange vs the Japanese being a shiny Orange.  This is due to the Swiss versions being molded in white, then painted the appropriate color with a matt finish.  The Japanese versions were molded in the appropriate color.

P200 for Clena (Brazil)

In October 2022, Pentel Brazil posted on their Instagram about the release of the Sharp P200 for Clena.

Aside from the colors, these are different from the P200 for Clena that Japan released back in 2018.

First, Brazil released these with the standard P200 text “0.Xmm Pentel P20X” vs the original “P20X for Clena 0.X”. 

Second, Brazil released 1 color per size for 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 & 0.9mm where the Japanese release was for the P203 & P205, each with all 4 colors.

When I placed my latest order from Brazil in December 2025, I did not order any of the P200 for Clena pencils, since I already “had all of them”.  Then when reviewing catalogs later, I noticed that as of the Pentel of Brazil 2023-2024 catalog, they had released all 4 colors for all 4 sizes, so instead of being just 4 pencils, there are now 16 pencils.

When I place my next order, I will go ahead and update my collection (and this post) to include this expanded range.

P205/P207 Pastels (Brazil)

First off, I would like to apologize for not posting about the P200 pencils for the past several years (last post was in December 20221).  As you can see in https://nimrodd.net/2022/05/02/new-pentel-project/, I have been working on a wider project, trying to identify all Pentel Pencils that they have produced (excepting limited editions).

But during that time, I was still collecting P200 limited edition pencils. So over the next few months, I will try to get caught up on all of the backlog.

The initial P205/P207 Pastel pencils were released in January 2022, with 4 colors in each size.  These were molded in White plastic then painted in a powder color.  These were never listed in a Pentel Brazil catalog.

These are the same colors as the European Floral/Pastel Limited Editions from 2021, with the exception of the Orange and Green.

We will get to those below.

P205-PCPB / P207-PCPB Pastel Blue / Azul Pastel

This is a light pastel blue with white text that kind of fades into the body color.

They changed the text color on these pencils to a silver to prevent the fading on these bright yellow pencils.

Second Release

In August 2023 with the release of the Pentel Brazil 2023-2024 catalog, the remaining 2 colors were released to bring the Brazil Pastel count to 6 like the European Floral/Pastel pencils mentioned at the top.

But when Pentel Brazil released this set, they only did so in P205 and the model numbers and barcodes were changed to match that of the European Floral/Pastel pencils.

I did not pick up these pencils from Bazil, since everything matched pencils I already owned.  But just to keep everything together in this post, I will list them again.

I am not sure why Pentel Brazil changed the model numbers to match the European models but it may have been dictated by Pentel HQ in Japan.  But this is pure speculation on my part.
